The first episode of "Hockey Night in Canada" aired on CBC on Oct. 11, 1952, and the show has been running continuously ever since. The show originated on radio in 1931, and the radio show continued until 1976.

"Hockey Night in Canada" began as the "General Motors Hockey Broadcast," which began transmitting Toronto Maple Leafs games in November 1931. The broadcast was highly successful, and "Hockey Night in Canada" began in 1952 as one of the first programs ever broadcast on Canadian television. As of Nov. 23, 2015, "Hockey Night in Canada" has aired non-stop, barring instances in which the hockey games intended for broadcast are not played.
