How long did it take to build the Great Sphinx?

There is inconclusive evidence as to when the Great Sphinx of Giza was carved and how long it took. The most commonly accepted theory is that it was carved in place around 2500 B.C.E, during or after the reign of the Old Kingdom pharaoh Khafra (also known as Khephren).
The ancient Egyptian culture of the Old Kingdom kept few records that have survived to modern times, and as a result, the origin of the Great Sphinx remains a mystery. The head and the body of the statue were carved out of different rock; however, it has been shown that they were carved at the same time and share a composition with blocks used in two other Gizan pyramids.
