Adult giant leaf frogs typically grow to 4 or 5 inches in length. The neon green species is a member of the Hylidae family and is native to South American rain forests.
Giant leaf frogs inhabit the trees of drier forest areas near bodies of water, rarely venturing lower than 6 feet above the ground. Giant leaf frogs wipe the wax produced by special skin glands over their bodies to prevent drying out. This nocturnal amphibian feeds on a diet of insects and other small prey. The species lays its eggs on the top of leaves; hatching tadpoles fall into a small pond or stream below to begin development.
