How long does high tide last?

High tides are part of a cycle of rising or receding water that lasts for approximately 6 hours and 13 minutes. Low tides last for the same amount of time.
High and low tides are the result of the moon's gravitational pull and the Earth's rotation. Two high tides and two low tides occur simultaneously on opposite sides of the Earth due to the gravitational pull caused by the moon and the inertia of the ocean caused by gravitational forces. The gradual receding of water into a low tide is known as the ebb tide, while the gradual rising of the tide is known as the flood tide.
