Long jump flight techniques include the sail, hang and hitch-kick. The sail technique is the most basic, but the hang and the hitch-kick are the standard choices for elite long jumpers.
For the sail, the jumper pulls his legs up into a toe touch position right after take off. For the hang, the jumper fully extends his arms and legs after takeoff so all his limbs are as far as possible from the hips. At the jump's apex, the jumper brings his legs to the landing position. For the hitch-kick, the jumper rotates his arms and legs during flight, as if he's running in the air. This technique is the most complex and requires enough hang time for at least one and a half to two and a half strides.
