Kangaroos may live anywhere from nine to 22 years on average. The life span of a kangaroo depends on the species and whether the animal lives in the wild or in captivity.
The longest lived species of kangaroo is the giant red. Giant reds can grow up to 7 feet in height, and with that size comes an extended lifespan of up to 22 years.
Eastern greys are the next longest lived, with a life expectancy of about 20 years in captivity. In the wild, they live between eight and 12 years.
Western grey kangaroos have a similar lifespan to their eastern cousins with a life expectancy of 20 years in captivity and up to 10 years in the wild.
