A standard screening mammogram test takes anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. Diagnostic mammogram testing requires additional views and takes 30 to 45 minutes, explains the American Cancer Society.

Add an additional 10 to 15 minutes to the appointment time for those who are new patients, as there are forms to fill out pertaining to general state of health, reason for visit, allergies, medication, HIPPA policies about privacy and insurance information. Once the doctor is ready called, patients are taken to a dressing area to change into a gown, then wait for the nurse to conduct the procedure in the testing room. The process may take another 10 to 20 minutes, notes the American Cancer Society.
