Mercedes-Benz first imported vehicles into the United States in 1952 under Max Hoffman. The 300SL Gullwing represented the iconic brand. Mercedes-Benz USA was established 13 years later in 1965.
After beginning to import its cars to the United States in 1952, Mercedes-Benz was in the position in 1957 to further expand its reach. The company aligned itself with Studebaker-Packard in a distribution agreement and then eight years later was able to do business on its own as Mercedes-Benz USA.
Mercedes-Benz USA continued to expand over the following years, and it sold 330,391 vehicles in 2014, the highest number in company history.
