How long should chicken legs be baked?

Chicken legs should be baked until the internal temperature has reached at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Some cooked meats require a specific amount of rest time to continue to kill germs, but chicken legs do not require this rest time.

The United States Department of Health and Human Services recommends that cooks use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of all cooked meats instead of relying on guess work. This prevents food poisoning and illnesses caused by meat not cooked at the required internal temperature. Some meats, such as pork, can still be very pink inside even when they have reached the required internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
