How long should I wait to change my nose ring?

The ring for a new nose piercing should remain in place for at least eight weeks, according to the Tang Center at UC-Berkeley. The total healing time can last up to three or four months.
Relatively low blood flow to the nose results in a long healing time compared to ear lobe and lip piercings, the Huffington Post notes. Since holes in the cartilage can close within hours, it is recommended waiting until rings are safe to change to avoid an infection.
Twice-daily cleaning with saline solution keeps the piercing clean without causing irritation to the skin. Piercings should be touched only when necessary, and done so with gloved hands.
