How long do spacers hurt for?

The Palo Alto Medical Foundation advises that the teeth, gums and mouth will be sore for a few days after getting braces or spacers. Most people are able to return to normal eating habits by the third day.

Although soreness will subside after a few days and most are able to return to normal eating habits, it is important to avoid certain foods to maintain comfort while wearing braces. Gummies, caramel, taffy, apples, nuts, gum and popcorn should be avoided, as these may get stuck in braces and cause additional pain and dental hygiene issues. Eating these foods can also break the brackets on braces.
