How long does a wire transfer take?

According to Consumers Credit Union, a wire transfer is delivered the same business day that it is sent if it's a domestic wire. For example, if the wire transfer is sent in the morning, then it is received that afternoon.

In order to send a wire transfer, the sender needs the name of the receiver as well as the receiver's address, account number and routing number of his bank, according to Consumers Credit Union. Wire transfers can be sent Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Once the transfer has been received, the funds are available to be used immediately. Depending on the financial institution, there may be a fee for sending a bank-to-bank wire transfer.
