There are many claims but no substantiated evidence to verify the actual duration of any individuals illness with HIV. However, several people have been living with this illness for over three decades.

Throughout the years, many people have lost the battle to HIV and AIDS. In addition to those that have passed on, a small number of individuals have been able to live productive lives since they were diagnosed in the early 1980s. These cases are rare because, sadly, most of the effective treatments were not developed until the late 80s and early 90s. As the years go on, more people are able to find effective treatments that allow them to manage their illness.
