Loratadine is used for relieving hay fever and allergy symptoms, including watery eyes, a runny nose, sneezing and itching from hives, according to WebMD. Patients take loratadine, an antihistamine with the common brand name Claritin, orally once each day.
Loratadine is sold in traditional pill, orally disintegrating pill and chewable tablet forms, according to WebMD. Patients take the medication with or without food, and they should follow their doctor's directions or the directions on the medication label. If symptoms do not improve after three days of treatment, or if hives last for over six weeks, patients should seek medical attention.
