The second primary molars are lost around 10 or 11 years of age to make way for the permanent second molars, according to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. The permanent second molars typically erupt around 12 years of age. The second primary molars are generally the last baby teeth lost.
The loss and eruption of teeth occurs at variable times for each child, explains Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. However, the same pattern of tooth loss most often occurs, with the four central incisors being the first teeth lost, followed by the remaining primary teeth expanding outward from the center of the mouth.
