Lumosity is a website where subscribers can train their core cognitive abilities, such as memory and attention. Based on the idea of neuroplasticity, which treats the brain like a muscle that requires exercise, Lumosity offers games that seek to make the brain function more effectively.

Whether Lumosity actually increases cognitive abilities is debated. Independent studies from the University of Michigan and Brown University found that playing brain games such as the ones offered by Lumosity increase memory. However, a study at the University of Oslo found that playing these games only made a person better at playing the games and did not lead to an overall increase in memory or brain function.
