Lymph nodes are found throughout the human body. They are most abundant on the sides of the neck, in the armpits, near the collarbone and near the groin.

Lymph nodes are small, round and typically found in clusters. Lymph nodes are a part of the lymphatic system of the human body, which also includes the spleen, the tonsils and the adenoids. The lymphatic system is primarily responsible for helping the body fight off infections.

Lymph nodes create cells that fight infection and serve as a filter to trap bacteria and other harmful cells, including cancer. When a person is sick, lymph nodes swell and often can be felt by moving fingertips over the areas of highest concentration.
