The mesenteric lymph nodes are located in the mesentery of the abdomen, according to Healthgrades. The mesentery is the membrane that connects the internal lining of the abdominal wall to the intestines.
Not only does the mesentery attach the intestines to the abdominal wall, it also holds them in place, explains Mayo Clinic. In doing this, it hinders the movement of the intestines into the abdominal cavity, notes Drugs.com.
Lymph nodes are small masses of tissue that help the body combat disease by destroying viruses and bacteria, states WebMD. The mesentery contains between 100 and 150 lymph nodes, adds the National Cancer Institute.
