Canada's main agricultural crops are canola, flaxseed, pulses, and durum wheat. Canada is the leading exporter of the aforementioned crops in the world. Maple syrup is the most well known of all of Canada's crops. In 2014, Canada was the fifth-largest agricultural exporter overall.
Canola was originally developed and grown by Canadian scientists and farmers. Thirty-three percent of Canola exports were produced from Canada. Maple syrup, made from the xylem sap from maple trees, is synonymous with Canada because 80 percent of the world's maple syrup is produced there. Quebec is responsible for around 90 percent of the domestic production of maple syrup.
