Who was the main writer of the Constitution?

James Madison is recognized as the "Father of the Constitution" because of his role in writing much of it and in helping the Constitution become ratified. He was also the author and champion of the first 10 amendments, known as the Bill of Rights.

James Madison wrote The Virginia plan, an early version of the Constitution that proposed a strong central government and the three branches of government: legislative, executive and judicial. Madison helped the United States ratify the Constitution through his collaboration with Alexander Hamilton and John Jay on The Federalist Papers, which made a strong case for the adoption of the Constitution.
