Who was the primary author of the Constitution?

James Madison is said to be the primary author of the Constitution. Madison and George Mason also helped to create and pass the Bill of Rights.

Many people were involved in creating and signing the Constitution. They all wanted a different form of government than the British offered. These men are called the Founding Fathers. George Washington, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, and Benjamin Franklin all played a part in creating the document. James Madison also wrote the Federalist Papers with the help of Hamilton and John Jay. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson did not sign the Constitution since they were away on business the day of the signing.
