What is a majestic palm?

The majestic palm, also known as Ravenea rivularis, is a native to Madagascar and is a cooler-temperature friendly palm, according to G.D. Palmer for SFGate. Majestic palms are hardy in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 9 through 11, but take temperatures as low as 27 degrees Fahrenheit for a short time.
Majestic palms prefer rich, moist soils that drain well and may need more nutrients in warmer climates than in cool ones, according to Palmer. While mostly disease-resistant, majestic palms may be subject to pink rot, diamond scale, sudden crown drop and fusarium wilt. Do not over-water or over-prune to avoid spreading palm tree diseases. If pruning, sterilize all pruning implements.
