Florida was discovered by the Spaniard Ponce de Leon in 1513. The state was originally called "Pascua de Florida," which means "Feast of Flowers." Florida ranks as the 22nd biggest state in the United States with 18.5 percent of its total area covered in water. Other bodies of water located in Florida are Lake Talquin, Santa Fe River, Cedar Creek, Turkey Creek and Oak Branch.
