Sweat glands are positioned deep inside the skin, and their primarily function is temperature regulation. The two types of sweat glands are the apocrine and eccrine sweat glands.

The eccrine sweat glands are coiled and tubular and discharge secretions directly onto the skin's surface. The aprocine sweat glands are coiled and tubular and produce potentially odorous, cloudy and viscous secretions. These glands discharge in the canals of the hair follicles and start to secrete around the age of puberty. This sweat can be acted upon by bacteria, which cause a noticeable odor. Sweat is made up of various organic compounds and water.
