To make African-American hair curly, wash and condition it, wrap sections around straws, pin them up, dry the hair, remove the straws, and apply hair oil. The supplies you need are shampoo, conditioner, a towel, a comb, setting lotion, straws, end papers, hair pins, a hooded dryer and hair oil.
- Wash and condition the hair
Shampoo and condition the hair with moisturizing products. Rinse thoroughly, and dry the hair with a towel. Gently comb the damp hair with a wide-toothed comb.
- Wrap the hair around drinking straws
Apply alcohol-free setting lotion to a 1/2-inch section of hair, comb it through, and fold an end paper around the end of the section. Wrap the hair around a drinking straw, roll it up to the scalp, and secure it with a bobby pin. Repeat with the rest of the hair.
- Dry the hair
Dry the hair with a hooded dryer. Keep the hood on until the hair is completely dry.
- Remove the straws
Shut off the dryer, and remove the hood. Remove the pins, and unroll the hair, starting at the nape of the neck.
- Separate and set the curls
Gently separate the curls with your fingers, and mist the hair with oil. Apply additional hair oil daily.
