To make a black veil, cut the corners off of a large rectangle of black netting. Gather the shorter edge, sew it together and glue it to a hair comb or barrette. Cover the gathers by gluing on a length of black ribbon.
- Cut out a section of black netting or tulle
Measure a rectangle of netting or tulle that measures 12 inches tall and 24 inches wide. On each of the shorter sides, measure 5 inches, and make a mark. From those marks, cut up toward the long edge at a 45 to 60 degree angle.
- Gather the veil
Using a needle and thread or a sewing machine set on a long stitch, sew a line of stitches across the shorter of the two long edges. Pull the threads on either side to gather the fabric to a length of about 4 inches. Tie the threads into knots to secure the gathers.
- Attach the veil to a barrette
Glue the gathered edge of the fabric to a large barrette or hair comb. Use a heavy-duty fabric glue. Allow the glue to dry fully.
- Cover the raw edge
Cut a section of thick black ribbon to the length of the barrette. Glue it over the gathered fabric, wrapping the ribbon around the underside of the barrette to cover the raw edge.
- Attach the veil
Clip the barrette into your hair, and fold the netting fabric up over your head and down to your face. Adjust the barrette placement to change the veil length.
