To make crockpot pulled pork, lay a bed of garlic and onions, add chicken stock and barbecue sauce, season the pork shoulder, cook it in the crockpot and pull the meat. You need a pork shoulder, broth, onions, garlic, cumin, chili powder, brown sugar, cinnamon and barbecue sauce to complete this task.
- Make a bed of garlic and onions
Slice enough onion to cover the bottom of the crockpot. Add chopped garlic to taste.
- Add stock and sauce
Add 1 cup of chicken broth or water. Add 4 cups of the barbecue sauce of your choice. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Season the pork shoulder
Mix chili powder, brown sugar, cumin and a pinch of cinnamon in a bowl. Coat the entire pork shoulder with this rub. To reduce the cooking time, chop the pork shoulder into cubes.
- Turn on the crock pot
Put the lid tightly on the crock pot. Cook it on high for four to six hours or on low for eight to 10 hours. When it's done, the pork should pull off the bone easily with a fork.
- Prepare the pulled pork
Use two forks to pull all of the meat from the bone. Discard the bone and any excess fat. Pull the meat into bite-sized chunks, and add in any additional barbecue sauce or seasoning as desired.
