Make a dog collar by cutting fabric to the right size and threading it through a clip. This takes less than one hour. You need collar fabric, a needle, thread, a clip closure, a D-ring, twill tape, scissors and a ruler.
- Determine the size of the clip closure you need
Determine the size of the clip closure you need. This depends on the size of your dog. Sizes range between 3/4 inch and 1 1/2 inches.
- Cut the collar fabric
Mark the measurements of the collar on the collar fabric. The measurements depend on the size of the clip closure and the diameter of your dog's neck. Measure your dog's neck for the length you need. For the width of the material, measure the clip closure, double the number and add 1/2 inch onto it. So a 1-inch clip closure needs 2 1/2 inches of material. Cut out the fabric.
- Hem the edges
Fold 1/4-inch of material over on all the edges and sew closed. Start with the ends, and then do the sides. Once the sides are finished, fold the collar in have so that the hemmed edges meet, and then sew the edges closed.
- Thread in the clip closure
Thread the material through the clip closures. Sew the ends of the collar back up against the collar material.
- Add the D-ring
Thread a loop of twill tape through the D-ring. Sew both sides of the loop to the collar.
