What is a Maltese tiger?
By Forinfos - 12/01/2026 - 0 comments
The Maltese tiger is a theoretical blue color morph of the South Chinese tiger. This tiger is alleged to have slate gray or blue fur similar to domestic Maltese house cats, as compared to the orange or white fur of the common tiger.
The existence of the Maltese tiger is disputed. Harry Caldwell described the Maltese tiger for the first time in 1910, and sightings have persisted in China, Korea and Burma in the years since. No photographic or scientific evidence exists to substantiate the claim that Maltese tigers exist. However, the Maltese gene does exist in domestic cats, which supports the possibility that a similar gene could exist in tigers.
