The mango fruit originated in the southern area of Asia. The mango is specifically native to Burma and parts of eastern India.
There are two known races of the mango fruit. One race comes from locations in the Philippines and Southeast Asia, and the other comes from India.
The mango grows best in warmer climates in places where there is no frost. Mango trees cannot withstand extremely cold temperatures.
The mango was not introduced to the United States until the late 1800s.
It takes an average of 100 to 150 days after flowering for the mango fruit to reach maturity. It is the national fruit of Pakistan and India.
