Depending on composition, AA batteries put out 1.1 to 3.6 volts of electricity during a discharge and contain between 590 and 2,100 amp hours. The major types of AA battery are lithium ion, nickel-cadmium, NiMH, carbon-zinc and Alkaline long life.
Lithium ion batteries have by far the greatest discharge capacity among AA batteries. They discharge up to 3.6 volts while the next runner-up, Alkaline long life batteries, discharge only 1.225 volts at most.
Alkaline long life batteries compensate by lasting nearly three times as long as lithium ion batteries. Their amp hours near 2,200 while lithium ion hovers just above 800, making the choice one between duration and power.
