How many cards are in a pinochle deck?

A pinochle deck has 48 cards. The deck consists of only two copies each of the 9, 10, jack, queen, king and ace cards in each suit.

In order to make a pinochle deck, players need two separate decks of cards in order to obtain two copies of each required card in each suit. To play, the dealer deals 12 cards to each player in packs of three or four at a time and then reveals one card from the top of the remaining deck on each turn. The object of the game is to receive the highest amount of points through different combinations of cards, or tricks.
