Buddy Holly did not have any children in his life. In 1959, Holly's wife, Maria Elena, miscarried their child when she heard word of his tragic death.
Holly met his wife on a visit to New York City. She was a secretary at Peer-South, the music publisher. According to legend, Holly proposed to her on their first date, and they eventually married in 1958. Holly died in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959.
Buddy Holly was born Charles Hardin Holley on Sept. 7, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas, and he achieved success with his rock 'n' roll band, the Crickets, when he was barely out of his teens. His hits included "That'll Be the Day," "Peggy Sue" and "Rave On."
