Harry Truman had one child named Mary Margaret Truman. Known as Margaret, she was born on Feb. 17, 1924. in Independence, Mo., and died on Jan. 29, 2008, at the age of 83. Margaret was an accomplished singer and writer.

Harry Truman was the 33rd president of the United States, sworn in on April 12, 1945, after President Franklin Roosevelt died unexpectedly of a cerebral hemorrhage while Truman was serving as Vice President. Later that year, Truman approved the controversial use of the atomic bomb on Japan in 1945 to avoid large casualties from a land invasion. Truman left office on Jan. 20, 1953. He passed away on Dec. 26, 1972, at the age of 88.
