How many college students change their major?

Between 50 and 70 percent of college students change their major at least once, according to Career Services at the University of La Verne. Among those who change majors, more than half switch majors at least three times before graduation.
The Career Services office of the University of La Verne claims that approximately 50 percent of college freshmen have not decided on a major. However, most colleges and universities do not require students to declare a major until the end of sophomore year. To mitigate the effects of changing majors, The College Board recommends that students choose a college based on its overall academic strength and not the strength of a particular major.
