France shares a border with eight countries. Spain and Andorra border the south of France; Italy, Monaco and Switzerland border the southeast of France; Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium are located along France's north and northeast border.
The bodies of water that border France are the Mediterranean Sea to the southeast, the Bay of Biscay to the west and the English Channel to the northwest. When including overseas territories, France also shares a border with Suriname, the Netherlands and Brazil. The shortest border is between France and Monaco and is 2.73 miles long. The longest border of continental France is with Spain, measuring a little over 387 miles long.
