How many different values of British coins are in circulation?

There are eight British coins in common circulation as of July 2014, including the 1 penny, 2 pence, 5 pence, 10 pence, 20 pence, 50 pence, 1 pound and 2 pound coins. Pence is the plural form of penny, and a penny is 1/100 of a pound.
There are also several British coins that are considered legal tender but are intended as souvenirs or keepsakes and are rarely seen in circulation. These include the 3 and 4 pence Maundy coins, the 25 pence coin, the 5 pound coin and the 20 pound coin. These are accepted at post offices, but not all shopkeepers accept commemorative coins.
