According to Dictionary.com, a dime in the United States is equivalent to 10 cents ($0.1), which means that 10 dimes make a dollar. The currency site Xe notes that the dime coin is one of the most frequently used in the United States, alongside the 1-, 5- and 25-cent coins.
According to the United States Mint, the design that currently appears on the obverse side of the coin dates back to 1946. It appeared shortly after the death of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and features his likeness. The Chief Engraver of the United States Mint at the time, John R. Sinnock, designed both the obverse side of the dime and the reverse, which features a torch, an olive branch and an oak branch.
