How many films are nominated for an Oscar every year?

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences chooses five nominees for each of the Academy Awards except for Best Picture, which can have up to 10 nominees. In total, 24 different awards are given each year.

Because many films receive multiple nominations, the total number of films earning at least one nomination varies each year. For example, 60 different films earned at least one nomination at the 87th Academy Awards in 2015. "All About Eve" in 1950 and "Titanic" in 1997 each earned a record 14 nominations.

The Academy increased the number of Best Picture Nominees from five to 10 for the 82nd Academy Awards in 2009. Beginning with the 84th Academy Awards, there are a minimum of five Best Picture nominees and a maximum of 10.
