How many gods do Sikhs believe in?

Sikhs are monotheistic and believe in a omniscient, singular god. Founded in 16th century AD by Guru Nanak, Sikhism began in the Punjab region straddling the border of modern India and Pakistan. As of 2014, there are 20 million practicing Sikhs worldwide. The majority of Sikhs live in India.

Along with Christianity, Islam and Judaism, Sikhism is one of the major monotheistic religions. Marked by their distinctive beards and turbans, its adherents are commonly mistaken for Hindus and Muslims. The Sikh scriptures are known as the Guru Granth Sahib. Since the death of the tenth Guru in the 17th century, the book has been considered a living manifestation of God's leadership.
