Contrary to popular belief, an elephant only has two knees. Many Internet theories claim that the elephant is the only animal with four knees, with one knee for each ligament. However the two front legs of an elephant actually have wrists and elbows.
Elephants are in the category of animals that are called "quadrupeds," which includes horses, dogs and other mammals. A characteristic of all these animals is the presence of two elbows and wrists, as well as two knees. The knees are located in the hind legs of the animal, while the elbows and wrists are located on the animal's front two ligaments.
