Ferdinand Magellan traveled more than 42,000 miles and led the first successful expedition to circumnavigate the Earth. According to New World Encyclopedia, the exact distance he traveled around the world was 14,460 leagues (43,400 miles or 69,800 kilometers), which took him a little longer than three years.
Magellan was the first explorer to cross the Pacific Ocean. He began his expedition with 237 crew members and a fleet of five ships.
