As of 2014, the gasoline-fueled Smart cars average 36 miles per gallon and the electricity-fueled Smart cars average the equivalent of 107 miles per gallon. When converted, the equivalent of one gallon of gasoline for the electric Smart car is 33.7 kilowatts per hour.

The 2014 averages provided by FuelEconomy.gov are based on evaluating four makes of vehicle: the 2014 Smart Fortwo Cabriolet, the 2014 Smart Fortwo Coupe, the 2014 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive Convertible and the 2014 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive Coupe. The average miles per gallon are determined by averaging miles per hour efficiency within the city as well as on the highway.
