How many mountain gorillas are left in the world?

There are an estimated 700 to 880 mountain gorillas left in the wild as of 2014. Although conservation efforts aim to help mountain gorillas, a loss of habitat, poaching and human conflict have impacted the population of mountain gorillas heavily.

Areas where mountain gorillas live in Africa have been impacted by human violence. Military conflict in Rwanda, Uganda and other mountainous regions has contributed to a loss of habitat for mountain gorillas. In addition, mountain gorillas have fallen victim to poachers who abduct young gorillas for illegal sale to zoos and in the pet trade. Because of these issues, the mountain gorilla population is greatly endangered.
