More than 20,000 workers and 1,000 elephants were used in the construction of the Taj Mahal. Construction of the Taj Mahal began in 1632 and took 20 years to complete. Workers came from India, Persia, Europe and the Ottoman Empire. The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum made from white marble.
The Taj Mahal is situated in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India and stands at a height of 240 feet. The Taj Mahal is named after Mumtaz Mahal, Shah Jahan's favorite queen. Shah was a Mughal Emperor who came into power in 1628, following the death of his father. Mumtaz died in 1631, following the birth of their 14th child. Shah then ordered the building of an exquisite mausoleum.
