How many people in the world wear glasses?

Over 4 billion adults in the world wear glasses. This statistic is derived from the Vision Council of America's claim that about 75 percent of the adult population worldwide uses vision correction products, and 64 percent of them wear glasses.

More women wear glasses than men; over 50 percent of all women wear glasses as opposed to 42 percent of all men. Approximately 85 percent of the entire population wear sunglasses. Nearsighted vision problems are more common in younger people while farsighted vision complications typically arise during the golden years. One-third of all people who wear glasses have at least a slight astigmatism.
