Fifty-seven of the 102 immigrants aboard the Mayflower survived the first winter of 1620-1621. Those who perished were buried at Cole's Hill in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Their graves at the Cole Hill burial ground were unmarked.
Initially, the Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower thanked god for delivering them from misery and suffering. However, in the first winter in the New World in 1620-1621, the Mayflower colonists faced hostile conditions, which resulted in the death of a substantial number of Pilgrims. The winter weather reasons for their death included diseases like pnemounia, lack of shelter from snowstorms, and lousy conditions in general. Forty-five Pilgrims perished that winter.
