When serving potatoes to a group of people, 1/3 to 1/2 lbs. per person is advised. The serving size per person can vary slightly by the type of potato dish being served.
The serving size for most varieties of side dishes including potatoes is 6 to 8 ounces per person. This amount can be slightly increased if only a few other side dishes will be offered. If serving potato salad, cooks should plan on 4 ounces per person.
The type of potato used in a dish does not affect the serving size. Yukon, Russet, gold and sweet potatoes can all be used. Serving sizes are for cooked not raw potatoes.
