How many pounds per week should a soldier who is overweight lose to reduce fat weight?

With the right diet and exercise any overweight person, whether civilian or a soldier, can safely lose up to 5 pounds per week. Although more weight can potentially be shed, it would involve taking some extreme measures which could be detrimental to one's health.
WebMD suggests consuming 500 fewer calories every day. This method alone can result in a loss of 1 to 2 pounds. Combining a lower caloric intake with a consistent exercise program of at least one hour per day can result in a loss of anywhere from 3 to 5 pounds. WebMD recommends to never lower daily caloric intake to less than 1,000 calories, as that could be extremely dangerous.
