How many probes have been sent to Neptune?

As of 2014, no probes have been sent to Neptune. The only spacecraft to fly near to the planet was Voyager 2, which passed it in 1989.
Voyager 2 passed Neptune's north pole from about 3,000 miles away, later passing its largest moon, Triton, from 25,000 miles away. NASA first proposed sending probes to examine Neptune and Triton more closely in 2005. At the time, scientists estimated that the probes would take 10.25 years to reach Neptune. In 2011, NASA proposed a mission to the closer ice giant Uranus instead of a mission to both Uranus and Neptune. As of 2014, no NASA-led missions are planned for Neptune.
